BUCKMANS GOES GREEN IN KING OF PRUSSIA

DECEMBER 1, 2011: KING OF PRUSSIA, PA

Expanding on their recent green initiatives, Buckman’s Ski and Snowboard Shops converted its flagship store in King of Prussia to be run solely on solar power in November of 2011. The roof-mounted solar array will provide 100% of that store’s energy needs.

This ski and snowboard shop is located on the busy Route 202 corridor in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and is one of 6 retail outlets operated by the Buckman family.

“We are proud to be able to complete this project and hope to have more stores on solar power in the near future,” said Brad Buckman, part owner and vice president of Buckman’s Inc. “It’s great to be able to offset our carbon footprint and be an example for other businesses in the King of Prussia and greater Philadelphia areas.”

The installation was completed by MetroTek Electrical Services based in Kunkletown, PA. In addition to the King of Prussia project, MetroTek also installed Pennsylvania’s largest solar array at Buckman’s corporate headquarters in Pottstown, PA. This installation produces approximately 950,000 kilowatt hours of electricity each year from 3,790 high efficiency photovoltaic solar modules.

By using electricity from a clean, renewable energy source, Buckman’s Inc and Buckman's Ski Shop in King of Prussia will offset over 1.27 million pounds of carbon dioxide a year. This is equivalent to conserving over 65,000 gallons of gasoline annually.

Family-owned and operated, Buckman’s Ski and Snowboard Shop is eastern PA’s largest winter sports retailer with ski shops in King of Prussia, Montgomeryville, Doylestown, Ardmore, Reading, and Whitehall. Buckman’s employees pride themselves on being the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic skiers and snowboarders in the industry.
