Meet Austin Lamoreaux
Austin began skiing at age 4 at
Mountain Creek (NJ). By the end of his first day he skied from the top
of the mountain without assistance. At age 6, after two years on skis,
Austin began snowboarding. The first season of snowboarding took place
at Ski Big Bear in PA. Austin was quickly in the terrain park hitting
kickers, boxes and rails, this was very natural to him as he began
skateboarding at age 4.
At age 7 (2005/06 season), Austin was accepted into the Shawnee Mt.
Developmental Program. While in the program Austin impressed the
coaches to the point of being invited to compete in slope style
competitions with the competition travel team. Austin competed in
three events winning one Gold and two Silver medals.
During the 05/06 season Austin spent over 30 days practicing or
competing in terrain parks and half pipes. He competed in one event at
Shawnee and two events at Mountain Creek. Of the 5 competitors within
his age bracket Austin finished number 1 in the year end slope style
points for the Mid-Atlantic Series.
During the 06/07 season (Age 8) Austin competed in many USASA
sanctioned events as well as numerous rail jams. It was during the
06/07 season that Austin began to make his name. Austin competed at
the Oakley/Buckman’s rail jam and placed second as an 8 year old in the
12 and under division. Austin competed in numerous other events, never
placing outside of the finals. It was during this season as an 8 year
old that Austin began to realize his potential and he became dedicated
to the sport, spending over 45 days on the snow.
During
the 07/08 season (Age 9) Austin competed in 10 events, located between
Southern Vermont and Philadelphia including New York City’s Winterfest
in Central Park. Of the 10 events Austin finished in first place 5
times and was a finalist in all 10, including a third place finish in
the 15 and under Division at the Powers Series Rail Jam at Okemo Mt.,
VT. Early in the 07/08 season Austin was featured in the Pocono Record
as one of the best young riders in the Poconos.
In April of 2008 Austin began trampoline training with Guinness World
Record Holder Ken Kovach. Austin trains on the trampoline with and
without his snowboard, learning and perfecting flips and twists. Since
July Austin has performed with World Class trampolinists as part of the
SKYRIDERS! acrobatic trampoline show, performing his snowboard
maneuvers on the trampoline.
This season Austin will be
training at Blue Mountain and Shawnee Mountain in PA, and Okemo
Mountain in VT. Austin’s snowboard competition s
chedule will include
stops in the Poconos, The Catskills, and Vermont. As well as being
seen in many half pipes and terrain parks throughout the east coast all
winter, Austin keeps an active off season schedule while traveling
throughout the county with The SKYRIDERS!
